Average time spent dating before marriage
If you are seriously dating someone, how long should it be before you pop the question?
How much time does it take to determine if he or she is “the one”? I know of people who have gotten married very quickly (like in a matter of days) and are still married decades later—and people who did the same thing and were divorced just as quickly.
The study also gave some optimistic glimpses into the state of modern relationships. Or, a couple may be “in a relationship” for a decade, finally get married, and then split up in the first year.It really depends on the people involved, and the reasons why they get married when they do. Most people realize that you shouldn’t get married too quickly after meeting someone, and the one long-term study I’ve found on the subject seems to back that up.Here's the thing—you can know a person for years before you get engaged, be happily married for years after that, and then something bad can happen. It happened to many couples I know—couples who played by all the rules and waited "appropriate" amounts of time before committing. Down the road, someone still might cheat, or fall out of love, or want totally different things.
